Many arrangements of this respected and hallowed tune exists for handbells. However, few offer an optional piano score. While this handbell edition is a complete, stand-alone arrangement, adding the optional piano induces a dignity that rightfully honors the saints who have gone before us. At Level 2, all ensembles can enjoy this piece enabling congregations to recall their loved ones in a compelling, musical way. Scored for 2-3 and/or 3-5 octaves of bells, optional organ and/or brass and percussion, this contemplative, plaintive, mysterious work conjures up images of monks in brown robes singing in stone hallways on their way to vespers. It is written in g minor with a definite Gregorian chant quality about it, only a bit more metered rhythmically. Martellatos play an important part in the work, first in appearing only occasionally to emphasize then in a full-fledged passage of mart and mart-lifts. At 132 measures it is a big work, but is accessible to level III choirs. Although the 3-5 octave part will stand alone, the 2-3 octave part will not. Brass ensemble consists of 2 trumpets, Horn in F, 2 Trombones, Tuba, Finger Cymbals and Tambourine.
This bell tree solo or duet arrangement provides the new bell tree soloist with a simple yet effective piece. A second bell tree solo rung by a more advanced ringer or played by a C instrument makes it a duet. The simple accompaniment of quarter, half and whole notes can be played by a beginning 3 octave bell or chime choir or on a keyboard. Included is the Conductor's score, a Bell Tree 1 Score, a Bell Tree 2 or C instrument Score, and a separate score for handbells, handchimes or keyboard to give the beginning ringer a music score which is easily readable in larger print. Two L2 ringers in a class of beginners inspired “Four Square” – a Split-Level piece that keeps experienced ringers on their toes playing eighth notes while new ringers learn to ring easy half and whole note chords. The catchy 4-note melody (either from G to C (plus D) or from C to F (plus G)) can be played from a number of scores in two different ranges (“A” for 2-5 oct.in the Key of G - and “B” for 3-5 oct. in the Key of C). If more L2 ringers are included, they can double the melody an octave above or below or play from a score which involves 3 ringers sharing the 4-note melody. Opportunities to ring 3 bells in a single position or 4iH is also noted. As long as all ringers are ringing from the “A” set (or all from the “B” set) of scores, all parts are compatible. A leader or other classmates can play the melody on piano, Orff instruments or recorders, if all ringers need to play from a L1 score – Or write lyrics and sing them as a group while you ring! Written especially for the premier handbell ensemble "Ring of Fire," this arrangement is suprisingly accessible for choirs ringing mostly Level 3 repertoire. The Bb trumpet (or C instrument) carries the melody, and therefore is not optional but is integral to the work. Giovanni Pergolesi's original work has been set here for 3-4 octaves of bells and optional 3 octaves of handchimes and keyboard. The keyboard picks up the sixteenth-note figures while the bells ring the melody backed up by chordal texture. The handchimes part is made up of quarter and half-note chords, however, there are some chords tied across the bar line. Level two pieces with this full sound should be welcome by directors of those choirs.

John A. Behnke’s arrangement of the favorite tune FAITHFULNESS is scored for 3–5 octave handbells. The piece has two sections, one which flows along and the other which is joyfully malleted, portraying God’s unchanging faithfulness and our joyful response to such underserved love. The bass bells will particularly enjoy ringing this arrangement. Level II+.
John A. Behnke’s arrangement of the beloved hymn is set to the tune BACHOFEN and is scored for 3–5 octave handbells. A motive of two martellato chords on beats three and four runs throughout the piece and emphasizes the power of Baptism in our lives, while the addition of the tune JESU, MEINE FREUDE is a wonderful C-minor surprise in the middle as it interacts with the original theme. Jonathan D. Campbell has arranged a medley of three hymn tunes associated with Christ the Good Shepherd, including BROTHER JAMES’ AIR, BRADBURY, and RESIGNATION. Arranged with accessibility in mind, the setting is scored for 2 octave handbells. "Remembering" is an original piece to remember those that have passed away due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a Level 2 piece with minimal bell changes and no sharing of bells. The music begins with a tolling bell and a melody emerges which seeks to express the significance of each life lived, including their struggle with this virus. A wonderful selection for All Saints Sunday or for a Memorial service.
Brighten your Christmas concert series with this outstanding piece for Bell Tree - or a ringing duet! Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy, carefully transcribed from Tschaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite, is a holiday classic that sparkles as a 3 oct. medium-difficult Bell Tree Solo (or handbell duet). A piano accompaniment score (also medium difficulty) is included in the score. Both parts are reproducible by original purchaser. The Bell Tree part requires A5-C7 bells (with optional either D5-G#5 bells or D5-F6 chimes). Rolled chords from piano to ringer mimic the iconic celeste part, however this section can be played entirely by the piano if desired. An optional repeat extends the 1:30 performance to 2:30. The middle section drives the piece forward before the return of the opening material, which now has a more hopeful feeling than before. A contrasting coda brings the piece around to a prayerful conclusion.
This original composition is the recipient of the 1998 Donald E Allured Composition Award and had its premiere at the Bay View Handbell Event last August. It is technically challenging, with multiple ringing techniques and constant meter changes. The rhythmic drive is captivating throughout. A must for advanced handbell choirs, and bronze level music at its best!
An original piece by a new composer to the AGEHR catalogue that contrasts major against minor. Echoes, mallet work, and bell peals are used effectively in this very accessible and fun Level 2 piece.
Although given an AGEHR level 2 rating, this piece sounds much more difficult than it really is. Ringers will need to be secure with eighth note ringing. There is a nice mood change in the middle, from G Major to a minor. Overall, this arrangement is an uplifting and exciting arrangement that keeps every ringer busy! Scored in G Major and a minor, it is 72 measures.
This (AGEHR) level 3+ setting reflects the joy of both the tune and the text of this beloved gospel song - "I'm Gonna Lay Down My Sword and Shield. . . Gonna study war no more." The rhythmic feel is that of a gentle, easy swing over a walking bass line, created with the stopped sounds played with mallets, and the customary, occasional syncopations. This piece will stand alone, but the addition of optional B-flat clarinet, bass and optional ad lib drums will add extra color to the texture and enliven the appeal.
The word, Ícaro, means “magic song” in some languages, and ‘magic song’ certainly reflects the creativity of this amazing piece! Beginning in 5/4, the malleted bass line, which was the initial inspiration for this work, establishes the pattern that is present throughout the 5/4 sections. A mid-range melody line enters followed by a higher treble melody that engages all the parts in a melodic, flowing contrapuntal interplay. It then segues to an engaging Latin jazz ‘B’ section written in 3/4 before returning to the 5/4. Rung at Vivo! tempo, this piece requires precise, accurate ringing and damping in order for the clarity of the writing to shine. Utilizing a 16th Century hymn tune and the tenor aria from "Messiah", this combination is awesome. The level of energy is elevated by the use of the hand drum and the flute. The pace is modified with the contrasting tempo of the aria and then finishes with the previous energetic disposition and varying dynamic levels, driving right to the last stirring chord

An eight lesson guide for beginning "seniors" to progress from "basic start" to Level 2 ringing. Published in 1983, one can see the progression from 2 to 3 octave music and treble clef only to a "piano" type of layout. The book is interesting in that Mr. Armstrong really breaks down "learning to ring" into basic units. THIS ITEM IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.

Level 4 • The lovely melody of this original composition was inspired by a poem about angels written by E. Brine. Composed in ABA form, the melody and interesting chord progressions combine to create a hauntingly beautiful feeling of serenity. The optional handchimes also provide melodic contrast with a light, malleted ostinato in the treble bells and later reinforce bass notes during the echoes. After modulating to a new key and returning to the original theme, the piece brings the listener to a soft, peaceful conclusion.
A delicate, ethereal opening gives way to a forceful, driving melody that travels through various moods and keys as it builds in intensity. This spirited piece for bell tree and handbell choir does not require any duplicate bells; in fact, much of the handbell choir part is played on chimes. A winner of the 2021 Into the Forest Bell Tree Composition Contest, "Air and Hornpipe" is perfect for a level 2 to 3 choir and a bell tree ringer with basic bell tree experience desiring a bit of a challenge as it is recommended that the bell tree part be memorized. Several adjudicators remarked that this piece is "fun to play!" while another noted that it would be a "great festival opener." At Level 3+, this is one of the more accessible titles in the Raleigh Ringers Series, but great care must be taken in order to present the musical performance the piece requires. Level 5 • This march, written in 1888, takes its title from the motto of the U.S. Marine Corps: Semper Fidelis – “Always Faithful”. The first performance was in the Inaugural Parade for President Benjamin Harrison when John Philip Sousa was the Conductor of the U.S. Marine Band – “the President’s Own”. This challenging piece will stir the patriotic pride of both the ringers and the audience alike. Written for 5 to 7 octave handbell choir and optional 3 octaves of handchimes. Level 4. Propulsive eighth notes underscore a primal melody of moving parallel fourths before passing on to a beautiful melody on handchimes. A short chromatic interlude then gives way to a setting of the first theme accompanied by triplet eighth notes before returning to the opening feel and a triumphal conclusion. "Festivity on Cwm Rhondda" is a jubilant level 3+ handbell setting for 3-6 octaves. It is based on the Welsh hymn tune CWM RHONDDA, which is commonly associated with the texts 'Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah' and 'God of Grace and God of Glory'. After a fanfare-type opening, the first stanza features an optional unison vocal part. Either text may be sung by ringers alone, congregation/audience alone, or everyone. These sections flow seamlessly from one to the next and are identified in the score. Mallet, Sk, LV, TD and more add to the interest and emphasize rhythms and dynamics. This is a very creative work which contains lovely melody lines while adding unexpected yet very appropriate and satisfying elements throughout. Originally published by GIA, this reissue features a few minor tweaks (but is still compatible with the original score), and it also includes the option to play the composer’s original uncut version of the chime section (“The Great Expanse”) which adds another 30-45 second to the performance. This wonderful setting of the favorite hymn tune ANTIOCH is introduced with the melody framed by singing bells while handchimes in the 6th & 7th octaves randomly ring, suggesting twinkling stars. This is followed by a rhythmic section featuring the melody accompanied by 16th note LV passages and mart/mart-lift rhythmic patterns in the bass. The excitement continues with a change in the rhythm creating energy that builds to the end. Optional synth/keyboard (warm pad) is suggested while the addition of Cajón will add another level of listening pleasure to this delightful arrangement. 66 measures in the key of C Major.
The A-section of this composition is an easy Level 1, using a quarter note melody, printed in red, against dotted half notes. The melody in the B-section has some repeated eighth notes as well as several eighth-note arpeggios, thus classifying the composition as Level 2. Scored for 2 octaves with one optional A6, this piece is viable for 8 ringers, with or without access to an A6. The title "In the Mist" makes this composition a good candidate for chimes. The publisher rating on this folio is Level V, but Level III choirs should be able to do a good job with a little practice. (The rating system is only a general guideline - some pieces defy rating!) This arrangement of the spiritual is upbeat and fast and syncopated. Few techniques or bell changes allow the ringers to focus on the syncopated rhythms and exuberant tempo. Part of the "Resounding Faith Series", this piece is set in Bb Major and is 64 measures in length.
For those choirs just venturing beyond level I literature, this simple setting of the Welsh hymn tune is a good choice. The first 23 measures are in simple "level 1" rhythms. The next section adds a few measures of running, staccato bass line. Later, a repeated pattern of eighth notes appears in chords. 65 measures in length and very accessible. "Resounding Faith Series".
Although the rating on the cover says level four, it is actually a level two-plus. An exciting piece to open a concert or worship service, this original is stately, triumphant, and bold. The bells (2 to 3 or 3 to 5-octave version both in one folio) shake tall chords in response to the organ's pronouncements. Twenty-three measures.
This level one piece offers high musical quality and yet remains easily accessible. Level two ensembles and higher can use it to hone their skills and improve their phrasing and overall musicianship. Note values are fairly easy and the piece is arranged in C Major. Measures total 60.
