“Prairie Morn”, a two octave composition for both handbells and handchimes, opens with a chordal introduction on handchimes followed by a clear melody scored for handbells over a handchime accompaniment. The second theme using all handchimes leads back to the first melody. Although the changes between handbells and handchimes for the treble clef positions put it at Level 1+, the rhythms are Level 1. Alternate assignments are suggested for the F5/G5 handbells to avoid the overlapping of handchimes and handbells for that ringer. Even though “Prairie Morn” is more effective with both handbells and handchimes, it can be rung with either instrument alone. 43 measures in length, “Prairie Morn” is scored in G Major.
