Hans Leo Hassler wrote the tune, Michael Burkhardt did an improvisation for keyboard in his “Five Lenten Hymn Improvisations”, and Martha Lynn Thompson picked it up from there and transcribed the improvisation for 3-5 octaves of handbells and 3 octave of optional chimes. Triplet figures abound in a larghetto tempo, and the melody is found in varying ranges. A separate score is available for the chimes, making it accessible for a level one chime choir. A great way to combine adult and youth or children in a larger work. Chime part is on last page.
