Description

A random ring on upper treble notes, performed by randomly striking suspended bells with mallets, opens this setting of Johann Cruger’s original work. A simple presentation of the tune is followed by a lilting, triplet accompaniment figure in 4/4 against the melody in upper registers. It is a unique effect here, as the upper melody note is rung and the lower melody note is played by chimes with vibrato technique. The piece ends with a free, reflective passage in piano dynamics. Arranged in g minor and e minor, it is 61 measures.
