Description

Level 3+ • This dramatic original work is a musical interpretation of the text from Isaiah 53:4–5: “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows….” A simple accompaniment of quarter-note chords lies under the plaintive yet lyrical melody, which grows and develops throughout the first section. The melody and the accompaniment become increasingly more complex and aggressive until reaching a dissonant, fortissimo climax, when random ringing with chimes delicately accompanies a return of the melody. Appropriate during Lent or whenever this scripture passage is used (RCL, Year B, Proper 24.)
