Description

Based on the Hymn tune EBENEZER, this plaintive melody is marked “Slow and mysterious”. To achieve this atmosphere, the arranger sets the opening section over a steady, malleted, quarter-note pedal tone. A fully-scored section follows, emphasizing the melodic triplet material. The meter then moves from 4/4 to 3/4 in a spirited passage that opts a dotted rhythm instead of the triplet. After that jaunt the music slows a little and moves into a flowing, LV section. The final section is fast and bright with lots of staccatos and martelatto.
